She pried her eyes away from the TV long enough to look up at him in distress. “They’re hurting people. Aren’t we supposed to stop them? Who’s gonna do it if we don’t?” We, as in the two of them. Not just the adult going out and killing or stopping a bad person, but both of them, fighting crime like some sort of magical superhero duo.

It was cute, but the thought of dragging Kenna into harm’s way filled him with dread. Dakota bent down and patted her shoulder. “Let’s just see what Adelaide wants first. Maybe one of her friends is already working on it as we speak.”
