Chapter 29

“You’re such an asshole these days,” Gerry murmured to himself as he followed the bellhop out of the lobby and into another, larger space with thick carpets and leather furniture.

His words immediately triggered the bellhop to stop and offer him a look of apologetic uncertainty. “I’m sorry, sir?”

Gerry lifted one hand, silently cursing himself. “Me. Not you. I mean…nothing. Have the other guests arrived? I’m not late, am I?”

The bellhop lifted an eyebrow. “I’m afraid that I’m not sure, sir.” He gestured at a staircase of scrolled iron. “Do you prefer the stairs or the elevators? The suite is on the second floor.”

“Then by all means, let’s take advantage of the impromptu workout, shall we?” Gerry waved the bellhop ahead. “After you.”
