Whoa, this is changing too fast. This guy is still an unknown quantity. He may be a shifter, too, but that doesn’t make him my new best friend. Still, despite these misgivings,Manuel didn’t dread the next day nearly as much as he had the first one. Not even with all the weird shit that had gone down during the past few hours.

Watching his new partner eat, Alex recognized Manuel had begun to relax. He wasn’t sure if that was good or not. Maybe I shouldn’t let him get too comfortable. I still don’t plan to make a lifetime partnership out of this, perish the thought. However, as he wolfed down the spicy enchiladas, an unexpected ease stole over him, too.
The past three years he’d begun to like Mexican food, at least the Sonora-style dishes served along the Arizona and New Mexico borders. He still wanted his oats for breakfast and would have taken herring, boiled eggs, and a nip of Scotch if he could have obtained them, but for lunch and dinner, the local cuisine was fine.
