He was making faces in the mirror when Sebastian popped his head through the bathroom door and grinned at Owen’s embarrassed chuckle. “You have a guest,” Sebastian said, nodding towards the front of the apartment.

The dread that fell into Owen’s guts was unreasonable. Had Craig come back? For what? To rant and rave about Owen not keeping the “rules” in check? It took Owen several minutes to gather up the courage to walk out, to arm himself with a hard expression and a you-can’t-fuck-with-me attitude, so when Owen actually saw who was waiting for him in the living room, his gratitude was not only noticeable, it was audible.

His mother looked up sharply at his sigh of relief and lifted her chin to appraise him with pursed lips. “What is this I hear about you being arrested? And would you care to explain to me why I had to hear about it from your brother and not you?”
