Chapter 40

I walked through the door, fully expecting to see a reunited couple going at it once again on my couch. But that wasn’t the case. Tim was seated alone at the couch, and Charlie wasn’t anywhere to be found.

“What happened? Is Charlie cleaning up?” I asked, only half kidding.

“That’s not funny. No, he’s gone. We talked, then he got up and left. He still forgot to put his pants on, so I assume he’ll be back.” Tim got up and gave me a hug.

“I’m sorry I lied. I just didn’t think you would believe me if I had told you the truth.” I wasn’t sure what to do. I didn’t hug him back, but I also didn’t push him away.

“Look, I understand. I don’t want to, but I do. To be honest, the way I’m feeling right now, I might even be tempted to try something. But I can’t.”
