“You knew this was coming,” she said to him.

He didn’t relax. “I know.”

“Are you ready for him to lose?”

“That depends. Are you ready for him to win?”

Her mouth thinned into a narrow line. With one last glance at Darren, she followed Enzo out. Darren’s smile still hadn’t faded. Now, though, he was more eager than amused. “Just so we’re clear here, they realize what I’ve spent the majority of my life doing?”

Aden didn’t look nearly as happy as Darren felt. “Yes. And just so you’re clear, you realize he’s going to fight dirty, right? You’re not going to have your usual arsenal at your disposal.”

Darren almost laughed. “I don’t need a weapon. I don’t plan to kill him.”

“And the fact that I’m not going to be there to watch?”
