The clothes were topped with a tranquilizer gun. Ryker reached out and picked it up. Gripping it tightly, he headed toward the snuffling sounds. It didn’t take long for him to find the source of the noise.
The beast was like no animal Ryker had ever seen. Outside of books of myth and legend, that is. The creature was almost as tall as a man, and reminded Ryker of a large, hairless dog on its hind legs, with sharp spines or quills running down its back. In the bright moonlight, Ryker had no difficulty in seeing its unusually pronounced eye sockets, as well as deadly looking fangs and claws.
It hadn’t noticed him, however, too engrossed in sniffing loudly. Ryker couldn’t imagine why. The smell of blood was so pronounced, even he could smell it. He raised his rifle.
