Leander obviously sensed his amusement, though, “I know there’s no logic to it, but I can’t help it.”

“Perhaps if your valet didn’t wear anythi—” A pillow hit him full in the face. When he could see again, Leander was sitting up and trying to frown, but his eyes were sparkling.

“My, but you are especially aggravating in the morning,” he said, mimicking Julien’s tone.

“So I’ve been told,” Julien agreed, not adding that he’d never enjoyed the telling half so much.

“I know it makes no sense.” Leander sighed. “I suppose you can just attribute it to colonial prudery.”

“Prudery is the last thing I’d accuse you of.”

“This is all very…new to me.”

“I know,” Julien said, sobering. “Forgive my teasing.”

“I don’t mind most of the time, but occasionally a serious answer could be useful.”
