Chapter 27

Lennon got dressed and headed out into the living area. Ben had already fixed breakfast and coffee. “I heard the shower,” he said with a shrug. “I figured you’d be ready for it.”

Lennon was. He took his seat at the breakfast bar and thanked Ben for the coffee. “So how are you doing with being here?” he asked, after taking a mouthful of eggs.

Ben furrowed his brow. “How do you mean?”

“It’s got to be duller than dirt for you.” Lennon kicked the leg of his bar stool. “There’s not a lot to do in the house, if you don’t have a laptop and work.”

Ben huffed out a laugh. “This? This is nothing, Lennon. I know that was kind of your point, but you’ve got a TV, and I can watch that if I keep it very quiet. I’ve been on jobs where I was assigned to literally watch a hole in the ground for forty-eight hours at a stretch, just to see if anything happened.”

Lennon snickered in spite of himself. It sounded like punishment detail, and the idea just made him laugh. “Sounds grand.”
