But the reason Lennon needed to be kept safe wasKuznetsova. And Kuznetsova was a threat to the entire country, not just to Lennon. There had been a time when that would have been Ben’s priority too. He needed to remember to keep up appearances or he’d be dragged back to Washington, possibly by his heels.

Adrenaline surged through his veins. Maybe they should have flown to New York. They could have gone by helicopter, used fewer resources, and taken less time. Lennon and Rada had vetoed the suggestion on the grounds that they’d be sitting ducks in a chopper with no possibility for a Plan B, and if Lennon had to sit in a helicopter with Kaden blathering in his ears about duty and whatever he was going to throw him out the door.

And Ben had agreed to it, because the helicopter was conspicuous as hell and because he didn’t want to see anyone trying to throw anyone else out the helicopter door. Right now, he was regretting his decision.
