Chapter 23

With my foot, I tugged the basinet closer to the bed, then gently laid down Jean Luc. He blinked at me with his father’s golden eyes, then grabbed the end of his tiny tail in one tiny fist, and promptly dropped off to sleep. I lifted Alle from her father’s arms and laid her next to her brother. She flailed out an arm, but when she felt her brother, instantly settled. I stared at them for a long time, just taking them in.

Miracles, truly.

Sol was all but asleep when I turned back to the bed. With even more care, I situated him under the blankets, then crawled in next to him. I couldn’t bear to be apart from him now. Everything he’d gone through, everything he’d given me, I was in awe and more in love with him than I’d been even a moment before. He snuggled into my body and relaxed, even as his tail curled over his hip to rest on me, too.
