“Probably a barn-dance kind of thing.” Mason shrugged. “We don’t have to go. I just thought it might be fun to get out and do something different. New experience and all.”

Jack curled his lip disdainfully. “Country music?”

“Oh, I’m sure they’ll throw in a little Katy Perry for the young ‘uns.” Mason grinned and handed Jack one of the two plates he’d been assembling.

Jack eyed the plate. “Is that mayo?”

“Most people do use mayo to make chicken salad, yes.”

“So, you’re like, purposefully trying to make me fat then?”

Even with the discord in the words, Jack sat down at the table and lifted half of the sandwich off the plate. “And bread, nonetheless.”

“And you’ll love it.” Mason sat across from him and smiled. “So eat.”
