He crossed the room, surprised to find the doorknob had been locked from the inside. He opened it and found the nurse standing in the hall. She smiled kindly at him. “Ready for a roommate?”


Todd let out a huge breath of relief. “Yeah. Hell yeah, I am.”


Nick was still out, but it was obvious he’d been cleaned up. He sported a few bandages, and when two orderlies hefted him from the gurney and onto the bed, Todd saw the roundish bite wound was covered with a large white gauze pad taped securely in place. The doctor trailed behind and motioned Todd to sit. He waited until they had Nick settled in the bed, then perched on the edge, hand resting on Nick’s arm.
