Chapter 36

“Violet told me a story,” I said, “and then drifted right off. It was a good story…all about two princes, one with orange hair, and one with curls.”

“Boing.” Mickey tugged on one of mine.

“How was your time with Pops?”

“Walk with me?”

I had to catch myself when Mickey suddenly moved.

“The horses…Help me walk them around a little bit.”

“That bad?” I also had to skip to catch up with him as he moved around to the trailer’s back door.

“Well, he told me a story, too.”

“Uh oh.”

“Not so much a story, but…stuff.”

“I can only imagine.”

“I couldn’t.”

I downed the rest of my third pumpkin coffee and hoped the parade staging area had Port-a-potties. “Okay…fill me in.”

It took a few more minutes, while we unloaded Onyx and S’mores and then fell in line behind another pair of people walking another pair of horses. We were our own mini parade down the side of the backstreet in downtown Philly.

“The horses seem calm.”
