“What if I refuse?” Del still didn’t want to cooperate.
“Well, simply put…” The lawyer put the paperwork back in his briefcase, pointedly clicked it shut, and then stood, ready to take his leave. “If you refuse to follow Katherine’s wishes, you forfeit the inheritance.”
“Both of us?” Del asked.
“I’ll do whatever Miss Kitty wants me to do.”
“Katherine assumed as much,” Arthur told Baily. “When I suggested we appoint someone to look after Ginger and the assets just in case, she said Baily would never let that happen.”
“Of course, not.” Del glared. “Who’d walk away from that kind of money?”
“I’d walk away from the money in a heartbeat,” Baily said. “I’d never walk away from Ginger.”
“Good.” The lawyer seemed as pleased with that as I. “There’s a letter in Katherine’s own words that describes the probationary period—”
“Probationary period?”
“Considering your occupation, Mr. Swann, your show business background, perhaps we think of what comes next as an audition.”
