“And remembering Miss Kitty,” Baily added.

“Grandmother…Of course.”

“Christmas was always just the three of us. China, crystal, and a feast for three in the dining room with the tree. Intimate, but pretty awesome.”

“That tradition goes back. When I was a kid, I’d often separated from the others to come visit Grandmother. Just the two of us, we’d do that, only without the tree. I’m glad you added that. Families are strange.”

“Different, for sure, each one. Bringing the dogs in might be just the thing to make this a Christmas to remember.”

“I’ll never forget it,” Del said.

“True. Me, neither.” Baily put his hand atop Del’s, still there on his body. “A very sad one, but hopeful, in ways.”

“Yes. Being with you will make part of it happy, too. It already has.”

“I’m glad. Same here.” Baily’s hand moved to Del’s tummy. Del wasn’t kicking and scratching it away, either. “I gotta get going, though.” At the stairs, “You’re coming?” Baily asked.
