“Dr. Avila? The Brazilian archaeologist?” Of course she’d know of him. Doing so might not be part of her job description, but she was one of the most widely-read secretaries in the company—probably on the East Coast, and she was aware of the leaders of many adjacent fields.
“Yes. He’s found something highly unusual along the Amazon, and apparently he needs an expert on lungfish to investigate it.” My second suitcase was brought out, and I grabbed it and placed it on top of the first.
“You?”
I nodded. “Father will explain everything when he sees me.” The third suitcase appeared, and I stacked it with its mates. “He wants me to have dinner with him and Mother tomorrow night at seven.”
“Well, that should give you enough time to get home, unpack, and get your laundry done.” We went out into the warm afternoon sun. “Will you need some moral support? I wouldn’t mind a drive up to Connecticut.”
