Chapter 74

“We almost there,” Ulisses muttered as he rounded the far end of the island.

Leo glanced toward the shore ahead of us. “What do you think happened?”

“Your guess is as good as mine.” The last thing I wanted to think about was what could have happened. I peered into the fog that seemed to have sprung up out of nowhere. “Is this usual? I don’t recall hearing about fog in this part of the Amazon.”

“I’ve got no idea.” And since Leo didn’t seem too concerned, I brushed aside my curiosity. I’d talk about it with Dr. Avila once we’d arrived at camp.

Sound drifted across the water, muffled by the fog. However, I could distinguish Sam discussing the best way to showcase the hand back at the lab and the body he hoped to find that belonged to it.

Leo heard as well. “Does he really think we’ll find something out here?”
