“DoutorKnight. You are safe.”
Of course I was. Why did everyone think I’d been in danger?
It was Sam’s turn to pounce on me, and it was nowhere near as companionable as Carlos’s action had been. Sam grabbed my shoulders and started shaking me. “What…what were you doing? Do you ha-have any idea how you scared me? I ought to—”
I knocked his hands off me and backed away, and he stared at me in surprise. “Are you insane?” I snarled in an undertone only he could hear.
“Sam, what’s the matter with you?” Dinah frowned at him. “David is a grown man who doesn’t owe you or anyone an explanation as to his actions.”
“He could have gotten lost in here. We would have been searching for him for days.”
“But I didn’t, did I? And you weren’t, were you?” I leaned close enough so only he would hear my whisper, “I’m not your brother or your son or your spouse.”
He shied away at my last words. “You—”
Fortunately, Carlos chose that moment to return. “Santiago! We must go, now.”
