“I’m getting you wet.”
“The hell with that. Thank God you’re safe.” He held me at arm’s length and looked me over. “This is new.” He touched the talon I wore around my neck.
“It’s a good luck piece.” I returned his hug, then stepped back. “I need to talk to Sam.”
“All right. Don’t annoy my nephew, Lucas.” Lyn glared at him.
Sam gave him an easy smile. “I won’t, I promise. We’re old friends.”
Lyn snorted and gave Sam a dirty look. “Captain da Rosa?” He and the captain went to the boat’s stern.
“All right, what did you want to talk about?”
“You weren’t always one to cut directly to the chase.”
“I have things to do.”
“In this godforsaken place?”
“Okay, I’m leaving.” I turned on my heel and took a step toward the railing.
“No, wait.”
I stopped, but I didn’t turn around.
“All right, fine. It’s a lovely place. Although I don’t know how you haven’t lost your mind from the loneliness.’
You’re never alone, my fingerling.
