“Shut up.”

She dons these weird wraparound sunglasses. I change my mind about the grape stomping. Mom is clearly going to spot-weld.

She’s thoughtful as we drive to the airport. “Your sister held up well.”

“Olivia’s coping mechanisms were not uppermost,” I say, trying not to sound tight.

“You were close once.”

“We’re not notclose.”

“She says you barely ever talk on the phone.”

“That doesn’t mean we’re estranged. She could call.”

“You have to take the initiative. You know how she can drift.”

“She just exists on a different plane. Olivia’s existential.”
