Chapter 34

“It’s like a treasure hunt, Blaise!” he cried, clutching at the pommel of his saddle.

“I never realized you wanted to be a pirate.” Blaise twitched an ear backwards so she could listen to him ramble.

“I’ve got the one eye thing down,” he muttered distractedly. “And I’m already a captain.”

Blaise nodded her large head, nose dipping up and down in agreement. Rory vaguely realized that she was scouting the area around them, and that he was being less then helpful. Still, Blaise knew what she was doing, and this problem required all his concentration.

“There could be anything down there, Blaise,” he whispered, trying to consider the possibilities. “It could be dangerous.”

“Here we go again.” Blaise nickered in amusement. “In all the time I’ve known you, not once have you ever made the safestdecision.”

“You know as well as I that the safest decision would be to kill him. I can’t do that, Blaise. I’ve tried already.”
