“I find that hard to believe.” Dryath looked away.

“Do you really? You saw the way people behaved when we were on Kindara. They wanted your blood. When you keep people down and take away their rights, you must expect violence. All I’m trying to do is change the situation, so that people don’t have to resort to violence. So that all people have the same dignity. I haven’t harmed you. I’ve kept you fed and hydrated. And my plan is and has been to take you to a place where you can find your way back to safety, even though it would be easier for me to drop you somewhere a little less encumbered by Republic laws.” He cracked his knuckles.

“You’re not just a killer, though.” Dryath sighed. “I’ll admit I don’t…I can understand why you killed your owner. I don’t blame you for it, even though it’s against the law. I understand why you killed those soldiers. But the smuggling? The thefts?”
