But it wasn’t good enough. As she set her sights on the damaged Jeep, which had crashed into a tree on the left side of the road, Ken saw two men dragging her unconscious dad out of the vehicle. He had a line of blood coming from his mouth and one hell of a bruise on his forehead, but he looked alive. With all her might, Kenna pushed her body to get to him. She drew a pistol and pointed it at the men. “Let him go!” she screamed. “Let him go, you bastards!”

They didn’t listen. In fact, she thought perhaps she heard one laugh. They practically tossed Dakota’s limp body into the back of the SUV, before getting in and starting the engine. Aiming high, she fired on the vehicle.

“Die! Just die!”
