And of all the houses on this block, only this one had adequate cover from both the street and the neighbors. Determined, Ken smashed the window with the back of Yuuki’s flashlight and carefully climbed inside.

It looked to be a guest bedroom. Nothing personal or overly expensive. Nice stuff. Lamps, bedspread, generic art. The works. It felt a bit like a good hotel room. Clean, yet impersonal. Her suspicions were confirmed when she passed by the open closet and found it empty, save for a few extra blankets. Yuuki might like this room for the night, she thought. Something just for her, away from the drama of caring for and dealing with Dakota and his injuries. The kind of room Ken would make certain she had when they got back to Colorado.
