Chapter 17

He lays the drawing on the table and turns toward me. He rubs his palms on his thighs, his Adam’s apple bobbing as though he’s swallowing repeatedly, and he blinks rapidly.

“Are you nervous?” I blurt. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you nervous before.”

He squirms. “I haven’t asked anyone this before.”

I cup his cheek and meet his gaze. Uncertainty flickers in his eyes, and I lean in and kiss the corner of his mouth. “Ask me anything. I’ll always answer if I can.”

He draws an audible breath and squares his shoulders. “I was wondering…I was hoping that you’d like to move in together.”

My heart skips a beat as though it’s taking a breath before jumping for joy. “That wasn’t a question, Porter Eldin.”

His eyebrows shoot up into his non-existent hairline and he shakes his head. He opens his mouth as though he’s about to say something, but closes it again.

“Made you speechless, did I?” I snicker.
