“Fuck,” he muttered out loud and glanced down at his plate. “I used to mock you for your clothes and label you antisocial in college for not wanting to join our mutual friends and acquaintances for dinner and bar-hopping on weekends. I had called you so many nasty things. Damn it. You…you didn’t have the money, did you?”

David’s cheeks reddened. “No, I didn’t. I attended college on multiple scholarships I could get my hands on. After graduation, I had to help my sisters to pay for some of their college education fees among other things.”

“Shit,” Tobias blurted out. He was ashamed of his past behavior now. “I’m so sorry, babe. I was an insensitive asshole.”

David waved it off. “Accepted, but it doesn’t matter anymore. We’re no longer the same people we were back then.”
