One of Jack’s eyebrows quirked upward. “I don’t know, can you?

Rob pressed his lips together. “Fine. MayI meet him?”

“That’s not up to me,” Jack answered.

Rob grit his teeth in frustration. “Why are you all likethis?”

“Why aren’t you?” The annoyance of the response was tempered by his cheeky grin.

“Because I’m not insufferable?” Rob shot back.

Jack’s eyes danced with merriment. “Oh, I’m sure you’re plenty sufferable. You’re a good sport though, I’ll give you that.” He reached out to nudge Rob’s leg with his toe. “You’re different. I like it.”

Rob felt his cheeks flush as he looked down at the unopened water bottle between his hands, unsure of how to respond.

Fortunately, Jack kept talking. “So, right. Alex. Don’t worry, he’ll want to talk to you.” He placed his empty water bottle on the coffee table and leaned over the back of the couch.

“Aaron?” he called. “Aaron! Where’s Alex?”
