“I’m not sharing someone else’s story, you creeper!” She stopped giggling long enough to frown thoughtfully. “Not that I know Anya’s. She keeps her cards up. I’m not actually sure of her story. She’s not from Home. Or if she is, everyone pretends otherwise.”

“So…she’s a Rogue?” The word felt odd on his tongue. Rob wasn’t sure if he was using it correctly.

Kayla shrugged. “She’s Anya.”

Rob shifted in his seat. His jaw tightened as the movement caused pain to shoot through him. Kayla looked at him curiously, but he managed to muster up a smile to disarm her concern.

“Can you…” He paused and reconsidered his phrasing. “Willyou tell me your story, then?”

A bemused grin graced Kayla’s lips. “I can, andI will.” She drew her legs up onto the couch and tucked them up onto her seat before continuing.

“Aaron and I grew closer on our scouting. We fell in love. Just the two of us. And, well, that’s considered odd, back Home.”

“They don’t fall in love?” Rob asked.
