Witze and Jimmy led the way through the streets, John next, then Todd and Nick, hanging to the back.
“You doing okay?” Todd asked as they rode.
“Yeah, sure. I’m not the one who was in a prison cell.”
“No, but you were with my father. That’s not the easiest thing to live through.”
Nick shrugged. “He wasn’t horrible. So, we go meet Clarke again tomorrow. That worked out so well the last time.”
“Yeah, I know.” Todd rubbed Nick’s knee for a few seconds. “Let’s worry about it tomorrow when we see what he wants from us.”
Nick sighed. “Okay.” He was silent for the rest of the ride, content to be safe with Todd, though worry about what Chancellor Clarke wanted of them was a constant nudge to the back of his mind.
