Chapter 12

“Someone’s got a girlfriend.”

It was that busybody Jake Dominguez sing-songing. He had the thick, clammy look of the frat boy he had undoubtedly once been and was always digging around for dirt on your private life.

“You wish” was all Jade would say.

Once Jake leaned in closely enough for Jade to detect a whiff of unwashed hair and whispered, “Well, if you’re flexible enough to bat from both sides of the plate, my girlfriend and I would be happy to accommodate you, as we’re into that scene.”

Jade gazed at him as if looking right through him. Funny, Jake never mentioned that again—though he couldn’t resist poking his nose where it didn’t belong.

If all adulthood were a reaction to childhood, as Jade thought, then childhood could serve adulthood as well. Jade had long since decided that his training under Se?or, the master bastard, would stand him in good stead in coping with the SOBs of the business world.
