Chapter 19

“It’s just that—” Jade looked around at the large airy white room, filled with patrons, their chatter spinning like the ceiling fans, their perfume and cologne mingling with the heady scent of the stargazers.

“Do you ever stop, Allie, and think sometimes that none of this is going to last, that we’re all going to die?”

“Wow,” Allie said, leaning back and exhaling. “I expected a conversation about girl trouble or problems at work. But an existential crisis. That’s a good one, big brother.”

“I know, I know. It’s silly.”
