“I think you should ask Hyde to let you deal with the bill for the Trunk.”

“You’re a devil, Granddad.”

“I am, aren’t I?” His eyes glittered wickedly. He patted my hand. “I’m a little hungry.” We were at the small dining room.

“Small dining room” was a misnomer. There were twenty-five people already there, and it could easily hold twice as many.

“Bradley!”

“Martin!”

“Darling!”

“It’s so good to see you!”

We were engulfed by the men and women Granddad had known forever, as well as their adult children, and I could feel his hand tremble on my arm.

“If you’ll give Granddad some room? Let me get him settled, and you can chat with him one or two at a time.”
