“Father started cursing me. How dare I ruin his plans by putting you above our family? I was a Llewellyn, and you were nothing but a…a…And then he collapsed. Mindy called 911.”
“Oh, Geoff.” I appreciated him not telling me what his father considered me.
“I didn’t even realize she was there, that she’d heard the whole diatribe. I was positive she’d leave once she made that phone call, but she stayed at my side the entire time. And she made Higgins give her Father’s ID and insurance cards.”
“Yes, you’d mentioned that.”
“I did?” He shook his head and scrubbed his face. “Once the ambulance got Father here, the doctors in the ER ran some preliminary tests, but according to Dr. Van Winkle—”
“Who?”
“He’s Father’s doctor. He said Father’s cholesterol has been sky high and his blood pressure out of control for the past two years. What’s surprising is he didn’t have a stroke before now.”
“But you said he’d been having those TIAs.”
