Jay got up and rinsed off his plate and flatware and set them in the sink. He poured himself more tea and sat back down with Hunter. “Now I don’t want to sound like some big old gold digger, because the last thing in the world I love about you is your money, but just how much have you inherited?” Jay paused, thoughtful, then turned to Hunter. “I just want to be sure we’re going to be okay. Hot as it is, we can’t live on love.”
“It’s enough, Jay. I have a small trust fund set up—”
“Which will probably cover the heat and taxes.”
“Just let me finish.” Hunter paused. He wanted to impress Jay. “And I have over a million in stocks, bonds, and funds.”
He expected Jay to gasp or smile or both, but he simply frowned and shook his head.
“I know it sounds like a lot, but it’s not going to be enough. When you factor in taxes, renovation, utilities, upkeep…we’d drain that in no time.”
