Chapter 36

Now Ian felt inspired to dig deeper by Hunter’s declaration that he was going to live in Beaumont House. The house had always had a somewhat unsavory reputation, a history of suicides and unexplained death. Perhaps, Ian thought, the key to changing Hunter’s mind was in this box.

He dug through it, at the very bottom, were a couple of black-leather-covered books. He snatched the first one out and opened it. He discovered it was the diary of Hunter’s great-grandfather, Anton Beaumont III. Ian stared down at the scrawled and yellowing pages.

At first he was disappointed. The diary, at least on its first page, promised to be as lacking in excitement as the other documents in the box.
