Chapter 75

Outside, the sun was blinding as he hurried to his car. As he lifted the remote to unlock it, he caught a flash of bright red in his peripheral vision. He turned and saw Naomi Black standing there, grinning. She had donned a silk Cubs jacket. Hunter laughed. Where did the woman get her fashion sense?

“Change your mind?”

“I want to change yours. Let’s get this over with.”

“I don’t want to go in there.”

Naomi and Hunter stood outside Beaumont House. The late afternoon sun hung low on the horizon. Naomi rubbed her arms.

“In all my years of doing this, I have never felt anything like this before.”

“Like what?” Hunter hoped he hadn’t brought her all the way up here for nothing, to only turn around and go back to Chicago.

“Evil, hate…whatever you want to call it.”

Naomi looked at Hunter, and in her eyes, he could see fear.

“It’s almost palpable.”

“Won’t you at least come inside? I can show you where the thing has appeared to me. Please, I really must get rid of it.”
