Chapter 86

“Maybe later.” Hunter got up from the bed and moved to his window, where he could make out the shape of Michael’s cottage in the darkness. All the lights were off. He turned to Luke. “Much later. I’m sorry, but I think I need you to go home now. Is that okay? I don’t feel so good.”

Luke swung his legs over the side of the bed. “Understood. Don’t be sorry.” He started pulling his shorts and shirt on. “Maybe we can hook up again? Try this sober? I’m home all summer.”

“Sure.”

Hunter walked Luke downstairs and to the front door, gave him a quick peck on the mouth, lips closed. “Be careful driving home.”

“You sure you’re okay? I could stay…”

“It’s okay.”

Luke hurried out the door. Hunter knew he’d never see him again. He leaned against the closed door, arms folded across his chest, trying to ignore the feel of eyes on him.
