Wayne and Bobby Lee shook hands. Was it Rory’s imagination, or did the shake last a second or two longer than was usual?
“Man, they sure build cowboys hot in Colorado,” Bobby Lee said, giving Wayne a slow head to toe inspection.
It was Rory’s turn to raise an eyebrow.
“Uh, thanks. You’re not too bad yourself, although a bit young for an old timer like me.”
“I’m twenty-one. About to join the Coast Guard.”
This led to a brief discussion about Wayne’s time in the military, the details of which were new to Rory. But he was glad that the focus had been taken off his and Zane’s relationship.
The four of them made short work of transferring Zane’s stuff from the bed of Bobby Lee’s truck over to Barry’s vehicle.
With promises to stay in touch, Rory said goodbye to Bobby Lee.
Bobby Lee then slapped Zane on the back. “Look after yourself and Rory. What you two got is pretty fuckin’ special.”
