Chapter 15

I sat motionless for a few seconds and looked from one man to the next. Radcliff told his assistant, “Keegan, can you write that down, please?”

“Of course,” the young man replied, scribbling on the pad in front of him.

My cell phone chirped like a chickadee. Thank God, because never had I felt so out of place and confused. I pulled the phone out of my shorts and looked at its illuminated screen. “It’s David texting. He wants to know where I am. Always keeping track of me.”

“So you don’t get away from him,” Radcliff said, winked. “Are you his pet on a leash? His kept prize? Something that he doesn’t want to lose?”

Silence found me. I became confused where I sat, staring from Radcliff to Keegan, then back to Radcliff. “I assume so.”

“You’ve been very helpful,” the author added. “Thanks for visiting.” He stood.

Wrong. I wasn’t of any help whatsoever. Shit happened. Whatever.

End.

I stood.

Keegan didn’t stand.

“I should go,” I said and began my exit. “David probably needs me.”
