Chapter 22

The air was cool against his heated skin and washed away the burning annoyance in his gut. Unfortunately, as soon as it was gone, the gaping hole it left became all the more apparent.

Holy fuck, what just happened? Who the hell had been standing in that room beside Chase, a bundle of fury and possessive rage?

The breath whooshed out of him as the jealousy was displaced by calm and left him shocked. Knock-him-over-with-a-stiff-breeze shocked. Somehow his feet kept guiding them forward.

“Thanks for bringing me,” Chase was saying. “Not that I wouldn’t have come on my own, but I hadn’t really planned to join any clubs. I was focusing on school, you know? Last year and all. But Mike and I were talking about studying together—we only have one class together, but we have others that overlap and ones the other has taken before, so we can absolutely help each other out. Plus it’s nice to really know someone in class. I don’t have to mooch off your friends.”
