The biggest problem Travis faced by not belonging to a Guild was not having the insurance to protect him from being summoned for another trial in front of the Grand Council of High Magick. Without that, Travis would remain responsible for the damages that took place during any magickal mishaps that might happen when he felt the need to intervene with any incidents that he sometimes stumbled upon. Whether it was an accident or a crime-in-progress or harassment, his so-called acts of vigilantism would always be considered just that. They’d never be sanctioned no matter how well-intentioned Travis was.
The most that ever happened over the years were fines that needed to be paid—sometimes some hefty fines—but nothing any more serious than that. Travis wasn’t reallyworried that he’d be arrested and actually see the inside of a prison cell, but the chance was always there. And for Niko’s sake more than his, Travis wouldn’t let that happen.
