“Oops, sorry,” he said. “Did you pick one for yourself?”
Sure enough, Niko handed him a book. Travis scanned the title and smiled. He knew this one, having read it in school. It was about a pair of lovers separated by war and years and life, miraculously finding each other again when they least expected it. Niko would like the story. The romance. The tragedy. The hard-earned happy ending. He’d probably finish it in a day.
“Just lemme pay for these and we can go, okay?”
Arms folded over his chest, Niko tapped his toes and clicked his tongue against the front of his teeth.
“I’ll be fast,” Travis said over his shoulder as he rushed to the front to pay for the books. “I promise!”
As promised, it only took about two minutes to pay for the books and get back to Niko. Total. That look remained on Niko’s face even when Travis got back to him.
