Chapter 23

There were eight in total, pretty much equal distance between one and the next. Zeke took the time to retie the loops once they were free of the feathers and Haziel. He was determined to keep the sling. Collecting interesting bits of hodgepodge medical rigging was a hobby.

As the last loop came free, Zeke breathed a sigh of relief. That was easier than he feared after Sandphalon’s talk of his companion being a problem patient. He lifted the sling high, up over Haziel’s head and the shoulder straps lifted away. Zeke wasn’t sure he could’ve done it if Haziel was standing.

Zeke bundled up the sling and stepped back with Peliel again. Now was the waiting game. Doctors were a menace to timeliness. Zeke hoped angel healers weren’t the same way. The anticipation would kill him. He needed to know how bad the injury still was, how much of that was his fault because of the filthy, cobbled together conditions and supplies.
