Shoes were missing, however. He’d left them at the side of the barrel with his scrubs, which were gone also, and he’d expected to wear them back to Haziel’s tent. In their place were boots, soft and dusky brown, which almost laced up to his knees. Something about his legs encased that high up bothered Zeke, but he kept the complaint to himself. They had provided for him, the angels, and that was plenty.

He parked his ass on the step stool and jammed his feet into the boots. The laces tightened up with an easy tug, the whole of the boot feeling like a part of his feet. Human-made shoes wouldn’t be comfortable after this.
