Chapter 37

“What have you done to yourself now?” Zeke’s exasperation leaked into his words. Every battle so far had brought Haziel to him with blood on his being. The sprain from the last one hadn’t even healed yet. If it wasn’t for the strange, concerned looks Haziel earned whenever he showed up for Zeke’s services, he’d guess Haziel was a crappy soldier.

Other angels came over to his group and dispersed to his trainees. Zeke rolled his eyes up to the monotone slate sky for a moment, though he refrained from praying for patience, and stepped into Haziel’s space, between his splayed knees. What Zeke thought was spatter from wing damage oozed out from under the bronze curls above Haziel’s hairline. He plucked strands out of the way, moving them with careful precision until he found a little cut in the angel’s scalp.
