As the spring days became longer and warmer, I would often take long walks in the evening to get myself out of the small apartment. I would go in a new direction every evening, carefully making sure of landmarks and street names so that I would find my way back with no problem. Each walk helped me to learn more of Paris, discovering new parks, restaurants, bakeries, and coffee shops. I was making enough at work to be able to enjoy a small treat once in a while, as Jean Claude had given me a raise and, so far, had not charged me any rent.
