She put her hand to her forehead and winced when she saw how much she was bleeding. “I’m a mess,” she joked. “Jean Claude asked me to marry him a couple of nights ago, and I said yes. It’s a good thing I did. I don’t know if he would still ask me if he saw the way I looked right now.”

“Of course, I would,” came a booming baritone voice from behind us. Jean Claude bent down over her, Rabi stepping out of the way. Paying no attention to the blood that coated her face, he kissed her and whispered, “I love you,” in her ear.

“What happened?” he asked her.

“My train just stopped fast behind the train that was already in the station, that’s all. I was thrown forward, bumping my ahead. I’m sure I’m one of the lucky ones. If I have a few scars, will you still love me?”
