Chapter 66

“Jesus, Dexter,” Daisuke mumbled as he ambled into the room, pulling a shirt over his head. “You’re the worst patient ever.”

“I hate,” Dexter grumbled, “being sick.”

“Yes.” He sighed. “I know. We got through this every year, buds.”

Dexter went to respond, answered with an unexpected sneeze and would have sworn his entire brain came out with it. Another moan would have to suffice.

“Yeah, okay, I need to get out of the infirmary for a little while,” Daisuke said. “You ready, Maddie?”

“Yep.”

She slid out from under Dexter, and he did nothing to make it easy for her, so when she finally got away, his head plopped down on the couch.

“I can’t believe you guys are going to leave me here all alone,” he griped. “What if I need something?”

“I’m sure you’ll manage,” Maddie said, adding an affectionate pat on his head.

“But…but food!”

“There’s soup in the kitchen,” Daisuke reminded him.

“Yeah,” he mumbled. “From a can.”
