Chapter 70

Quite honestly, he shouldn’t have come over when Dexter was sick either. If Colin caught anything, he wouldn’t be able to go see Lena, and his mom had not been doing too great. She turned for the worse pretty fast.

It’d been coming of course. Didn’t mean it hit any less hard. The past few weeks had stolen her strength. Her hair had thinned and mostly fallen out. Her body was weak and frail. She used oxygen all the time now and Colin stayed there every day until she fell asleep with the promise from Darcie that she’d call him first thing in the morning when she woke.

“You wanna get coffee before we get on the subway?” Colin suggested as they passed a bakery.

“Up to you, buddy.”

“Good.” He tugged Dexter toward the door. “I want some coffee.”
